I created an updated identity system for Syracuse Label. It is still in the preliminary stages, but this is the general idea of it. I modified the existing logo (which looks somewhat similar to the black “peeling away” label in the center of the new version) to incorporate the new name. It uses the negative space between the shapes to complete the background of the old logo, which I think worked out very well.
Here’s a fun trick you can do somewhat easily with Photoshop. I love the subtlety of this photo manipulation because many people don’t realize it has been taken under the “knife.” In this tutorial, I will teach you how to make your camera disappear and trick your viewers with this optical illusion.
What you’ll need is a camera, a big mirror and a basic knowledge of Photoshop. The theory behind this image is that you’re combining three photos into one. One of each of your hands and a third of your head.
Step One
Holding the camera with your right hand directly in front of your face, place your left fingertips against a mirror. Take a few shots because the framing will be difficult with the camera so close to your face.
I made this after spending four hours making all sorts of other designs and ultimately having nothing to show for it.

I just designed what will be our full logo for Our 11th Hour (the “wings” design will remain as a little identifier). The idea was to subtly reference a clock and I wanted to use my usual minimalist style. I just really like how everything lines up; most notably the “TH” lines up with the top of the “11″ (as it would as a superscript). I really love having a finished design that is just so locked in. The previous example dictates where the rest of the type needs to go for it to work, which I think is so cool for logo design because it’s such a small area to work with.

Not sure if anyone would want to use this, but I made it for myself and figure I’d put it up anyway. It’s just a desktop wallpaper featuring the new Groggie.com logo. It’s 1440×900, and I’ll gladly make other aspect ratios if anyone actually wants one.

I designed this one around the lyrics of the song I wrote for Our 11th Hour with the same name.
This is the album cover for the Musician’s Lounge compilation where song lengths are all 30 seconds max. I thought this was a neat concept for that idea.

(7/6/08 Update) Check out the thread about it on Something Awful, or click here for a direct link to the album. My songs are track six and nineteen.
I’ve sort of reached a niche for my recent design style- not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but I think most artists have periods where their design traits have similarities. I am glad that I found a style that I really like, so I guess it is a good thing. Let’s see where it takes me.

(7/1/2008 Update) This poster was selected to be licensed for sale at PostersForHumans.com. I’ll link to my poster’s page once it’s up.
I thought I’d make a simple poster design for my band. This is a little banner with the band name tangled with some vines.
A darkness as black as… Oh, I don’t know… Oil? Inspired by Kazimir Malevich’s “Black Square.”

An ode to Helvetica Light and Ultralight. I tried to focus on the two definitions of “light,” so that is why the elements of the light post and the sun are included. It also represents typographical integration in that the type is silhouetted in the sun; integrating type doesn’t need to be complicated.

Well, the part that makes us do stupid things.
We took our first promo photos and they turned out pretty well- especially since they were just a whim by Pat and Marty.

I just updated the Groggie.com logo to get rid of my stupid face as the main identity for the site. It needed the update anyway, since my face has represented the site since about 2005 and has outlasted all three of the major overhauls. Well, here it is. It should be easier to get used to (not to mention easier on the eyes) than my ugly mug.
This was for the same digital illustration project as “Through the Eyes of Conservatism.” This is my pro-Obama campaign poster.

This is a poster I made for my digital illustration class where we had to make two posters: one in favor and one against a presidential candidate. This is my “negative” campaign against Obama, but I am an Obama supporter, so I treaded carefully. It is in the style of a Gustav Klutsis Russian propaganda poster.

My design titled “There is No Justification for the Existence of Mustard” is being exhibited in downtown Oswego at the “Food For Thought” show. The show is from April 16th until May 17th. There is a reception on May 9th for it at 7pm.
